REFLECTION OF LIFE

Pinnie Dean Boswell Bush  began life as the second child born to Nathan and Willie Jackson April 17, 1928, in Crenshaw Country, Luverne, Alabama.  At an eary age she united with the New Hope “Valley” Baptist Church, Luverne, Alabama.

          “Deana” as she was affectionally called was educated in the school system of her birth, Crenshaw County Training School.  She graduated Valedictorian of her class.  Many did not know that in her youth she was very active.  She played short stop on her high school softball team and they were undefeated for four years, she  played on the basketball team. Also, she was a member of the Debate Team where she would gladly argue  pro or con on whatever the subject.  After graduating from high school she attended Alabama State University, Montgomery, Alabama.

          Deana met and married a young man working construction in Luverne, named Alphard Howard Boswell and relocated with him to his home town of Gadsden, Alabama.  They became the proud parents of three children…Willodean, Ella and Alphard Jr. Her husband, Alphard Sr was stricken with a deadly illness. Years later she met and married Ervin Bush.

She became a dedicated, faithful member of the Antioch Baptist Church.  At Antioch she served as the Clerk of the church for more than 50 years, President of the Missionary Society, Instructor for the BTU and Counselor for the Matrons and Sunbeam Band.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Alphard Jr. “Dick” , siblings Alma, Leroy and Nathan Jackson, Jr., daughter, Lois Spanks and son-in-law Earl Thomas Woody.

Her fondest memories are forever cherished by her daughters, Willodean and Ella Woody;  grand children Harold J. “Sam” Woody, Theresa Miller, Darrell Woody,  Pernecia Woody, Syneeka Williams, Sadie Boswell, Cynthia Dark and James Spanks;  twelve great grand children;  five great, great grand children; sons- in-law Harold “Duck” Woody and John Spanks; daughter-in-law Mary Boswell; sister-in-law Essie Jackson; step-daughters, Frances Wilson, Phyllis Jones ,Rita Brunson, Gail Bush, Edna Mae Bush;  chosen children, Ann Potter, Mary Insner, Jimmy “Pickle”, Willie Howard and Warren Thomas, James Croft and many others she warmly embraced as “Moma Deana”, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, life friends and the extended family of Gadsden State Community College.
