Bowing in humble submission to the will of God, we announce the earthly transition of Dock Calloway of Gadsden, who traded time for eternity on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at the age of 91.

Mr. Dock Calloway was born March 9, 1929 in Phenix City, Alabama to the union of Mr. Hugh and Maggie Calloway, stepmother, Estella Calloway. He later moved to Gadsden, Alabama during his youth. Mr. Calloway was educated in the Attalla School System and is a graduate of Norris High School, Attalla, Alabama. He served in the United States Army as a Private First Platoon and fought in the Korean War.

After being in Gadsden, he met and married Catherine Satomi Hardy. To that union, four children were conceived. He worked many years at John Thomas Ford, Gadsden, Alabama and retired from Chevrolet of Gadsden, Alabama after forty plus years of service. He joined Friendship Baptist Church, Gadsden, Alabama during his young adult life and was devoted to his family and neighbors. Mr. Calloway was also an avid participant of the Black Creek Community Association and a Mason.

Mr. Calloway was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Maggie Calloway; stepmother, Estella Calloway; brothers, Sherman, Ernest, Ed, William and daughter, Kim Satomi. On October 15, 2020, Mr. Dock Calloway said, “so long, I will see you later”. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted family: children, Karen Marie, Albertville, Alabama, Kevin Derek (Popeye), Gadsden, Alabama, Keith Dock (Keindrell), South Fulton, Georgia; grandchildren, De’meriktiyel Calloway (Deceased), Leah (Desmond) Harris, Devon (Brittany) Russell, Ferlandous Dobbins, Lucy Renardo (Jodeci) Vaughn, Alexis Calloway (D’Andre) Cotton, Fort Eustis, Virginia, Zodia (Craig) Calloway, Makai Erwin of Gadsden, Alabama; great grandchildren, Jordan Middleton, Jah’Leah Byers, Zion Vaughn, Bryson Russell, Desmond Peterson, Jr., Ava Dudley, Aiden Cotton, Kaisydn Ford, Dre’sen Russell, Zoey Sandridge, Amir Cotton, Kim’Bella Peterson; sisters in-law, Ms. Bessie Calloway, Gadsden, Alabama, Ms. Amanda Baxter, Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Mary Hughes, Detroit, Michigan; brother-in-law, Rev. Gilbert Hardy, Sr.;  special nieces and nephews, Betty Calloway Brooks, Carnell Williams, Gadsden, Alabama, Kathleen Oliver (Edrick), Detroit, Michigan, Romae (Blake) Thompson, Gadsden, Alabama, Marilyn (Tony) Bougere Gadsden, Alabama; special friends, Mr. Joe Stedemire, Mr. Van Harris, Alythia (Randy) Powell, Gadsden, Alabama, special neighbors: Jackie (Rick) Stark, Jonesborough, Georgia, Pamela Butler, Birmingham, Alabama, Joan, Claudette and Harilyn, Gadsden, Alabama. A special thanks to his Care Givers: Anica Ash, Kendra Granger, the nurses and chaplain of Southern Care New Beacon Hospice.


Celebratory Graveside Service will be 11:00a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Lincoln Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be 4:00-6:00p.m. Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Etowah Chapel of Adams-Buggs Funeral Service.
