Dorothy Looney was born on July 13, 1936 to the late Paul Draper and Domie L. Johnson. Born and raised in Talucha Alabama, she maintained a close and loving relationship with her one and only sister Ollie Thomas.

She accepted Christ at an early age, and upon her move to Gadsden, Alabama she joined Sweet Home United Methodist Church. It was here where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a steward, director of the youth group, and participated in various women groups.

In 1963, Dorothy gave birth to her one and only daughter, Sonya, whom was dear to her heart. She also shared special bonds with her nieces and nephews; and loved them as children of her own.

Her hobbies included sewing, playing bingo, watching sports, and a library book club. She was also devoted to regularly attending bible study and cooking delicious dishes and desserts for anyone who asked.

Dorothy was known as a sweet and mild mannered woman. Her final years were filled with friends and family as well as much time spent with her great grandchildren who adored her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ollie Thomas, and great-granddaughter Jade Howard.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Sonya (Russell) Rivers, Nashville, TN; three granddaughters, Brandi Rivers, Cierra (Joshua) Howard, Jessica (Garland) Brooks; five great grandchildren, Jevon, Keziah, Christian, Kamryn, Ava, Garland Jr.; special brother- in- law, Murdies Thomas, Gadsden, Al;  three nephews, Larry (Sarah) Thomas, Vincent Thomas, Brandon Thomas; sixnieces, Michelle (Fred) Hollis, Lisa (Lorenzo) Pearsall, Renae (Larue) Watkins, Kim (Carlos) Simon, Jennifer Thomas, Tiffany (Chauncey) Thornton; special cousins Idella Chatman, Molly Steward, many other great-nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
