Mrs. Wilmer Goggins Lee was the sixth of seven children born to the union of the late Addie and Almer Longshaw Goggins on August 30, 1935 in Coosa County, Alabama. She was reared in the Clay County and graduated Class of 1954 from Clay County Training School in Lineville, AL. After high school, she moved to Brooklyn, NY. She attended and graduated from the Ophelia De-Vore School of Charm where she acquired a passion for modeling.

Wilmer sought employment with New Jersey Bell in 1957. This relationship lasted thirty-three years when she retired from AT&T. In 1962, Wilmer married the late Robert Lee Sr., of Newark, NJ. There union was blessed with three children, Tammy, Robert, Jr. and Sherri.

In 1963, Wilmer joined and faithfully served for twenty-seven years at Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in Jersey City, NJ under the pastorate of the late Dr. Andrew Wesley Mapp.

In 1990, Wilmer relocated to Clay County where she began employment with Clay County Hospital and Nursing Home and also Wellborn Cabinets. She continued her service to the Lord by lifting him up in song. She recorded with Rev. Julius Love and the Clay County Mass Choir. She also faithfully served at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Shirleen Harvey until her health began to fail.

Wilmer was a kind and loving person who touched many with her big heart and beautiful smile that could light up any room. She was the most giving and caring mother and grandmother any family could have ever asked or wished for.

December 2018, Clay County Hospice joined Wilmer’s care team and also became family. They provided spiritual, emotional and physical care with excellence, which truly made Wilmer’s transition on Thursday, October 24, 2019 easier to bare. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Myles; one sister, Lillie Mae Stove; four brothers, Walter, Clifford, Milford and James Lewis Goggins.
