Prophetess Clarissa Ann Hope Coats, a warrior of faith, was born August 26, 1960, in Gadsden, AL to Otis D. and Ethel Lou Carlisle Hope, Jr.

At an early age, Clarissa accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at Attalla #1 AOH Church of God under the leadership of her grandmother, Elder Mary E. Washington. She then followed under the leadership of her father at Mary Etta Temple AOH Church of God, in Guntersville, Alabama. Later on in life she was lead to unite with New Liberty Tabernacle of Praise Assembly of God under the leadership of Pastor Willie J. Simmons. Here she served in many capacities and remained a faithful member until she was unable to attend.

She received her formal education in the Gadsden City School System, graduating from Gadsden High School, Class of 1978.

Clarissa was a very vibrant, lively, athletic and outgoing person. She was the life of the party and loved to dance. She was well known for singing with her siblings known as The Hope Family, also The Miracle Mass Choir under the leadership of Jane Estelle Hope, East Alabama Gospel Music Workshop of America and Gadsden Regional Gospel Music Workshop of America.

Throughout her life she accomplished a lot and was very involved in her community. Clarissa was the president of the PTSO at Cory Middle School with her dear friend, the assistant president, Carla Cole. They petitioned and had the uniform policy changed back to regular clothing. She was the director of the summer camp CDP 2000, a volley ball coach, and was the best stand football coach that Gadsden ever had.  Although all these things gave her great joy, there was nothing that could top ministering to people. That was truly the joy of her life. Clarissa was known as the “Gospel Gangsta”. She conducted a prison ministry and was also the founder of The Gospel Revolution.

On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, Clarissa gracefully answered the Master’s call and entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Lou Hope; son, Justin M. Pope Sr.; two brothers, Norman Hope, Jerry Hope; and one sister, Patience Belinda Hope.

She leaves to cherish her memories and legacy her loving and devoted children, Celeste Hope- Stoute, Danielle (Clyde) Taylor, David I. Coats; loving grandchildren, Danilya “Cookie” Stoute, Justin “PJ” Pope Jr., Demauriah “Juicy” Coats, Ezra Aiden Simmons, Arrionna Moore, Roderick Moore, Jr., Andres Moore; loving parents, Otis (Pearlie) Hope Jr.; loving and caring siblings, Jane Estelle Hope, Jeffery (Gloria) Hope, Lawrence (Phyllis) Mathews, Beverly (Leroy) Buckner, Alan Christopher Hope, Sonya Nechelle Hope, Sonya McCarter, Loretta (Masa) Gumiro, Sierra McKinney, Rodney (Geisla) Bolton; god-son, Corian Santiago; special cousins, Teresa Miller, Onelia Hope Smitherman; special friends and sisters whom she loved dearly, Brenda Parker, Debra Perry, Jennifer Crowley, Theresa Crowder, Valerie Borden, Lisa Frazier, Renita Harrell Davis, Benita Harrell Jemison, Alvita Cane, Rose Waddell, Kimmie Martin, Renesse Swain, Quanita Hughley, Mary McCants, Sylvia Woods, Lillie Tryon, Carla Cole, Ruby Nell Wyatt; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
