Music by The Piano Brothers

Mr. Derrick Barry Callahan was born March 4, 1961 at St. Clair County Hospital in Pell City, Alabama to the union of the late Arlandes and Jessie Mae Culpepper Callahan. He was preceded in death also by a son, Altonio Pickett; a daughter, Jadi Nicole Brock; a brother, Milford Callahan and a sister, Janice Callahan.

Derrick acknowledged his faith in Christ at an early age at Bethlehem United Methodist Church of Ragland. He later rededicated his life to Christ at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Thomas Kelley.

Derrick was educated in the Ragland City and the St. Clair County School Systems and graduated from Ragland High School Class of 1980. After graduation, he sought employment at Ragland Brick Company. He later saw the opportunity to advance in the work field and took employment with Ford Meter Box in Pell City, where he worked for twenty-six years until his health declined.

Derrick was known for his love for fishing and hunting. Even though he was quiet in nature, you never really had to ask him much because he was usually fishing or hunting when he wasn't working. He was affectionately known by many, especially his family, as "Whistle".

Derrick's Strong heart stopped beating on Monday, May 4, 2020 after a brief illness. Those left to cherish his memories are his three daughters, Latoya Pickett (Mike) Oden, Niagara Falls, NY, Abrian Pickett- Brewster, Gadsden, AL, Raven Callahan, Savannah, GA; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Richard (Cyclone) Culpepper, Battle Creek, MI, James E. (Diane) Callahan, Grand Rapids, MI, Julius L. (Gladys) Callahan, Ragland, AL; two sisters, Alice Saulter, Karen (Jonathan) Williams, both of Ragland, AL; sister-in-law, Inez Callahan, Battle Creek, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Celebration of Life will be Graveside 12 Noon Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery, Ragland. Rev. Thomas Kelley, pastor of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church of Ragland, will preside. Viewing will be 4:00-6:00p.m. Friday, May 8, 2020 at the St. Clair Chapel of Adams-Buggs Funeral Service.

Pallbearers will be Willie Scott, Sr., Jeffrey Robinson, James Forman, Jr., Richard Brewster, Lonnie Hendrix and Ariel Callahan.

The family would like to especially thank St. Vincent's St. Clair Hospital and Hospice, Ford Meter Box and all who have shown their love through phone calls, text messages, visits, food, flowers and most of all your prayers.
