Mrs. Cathlee “Mrs. Cat” Sanders
Mrs. Cathlee “Mrs. Cat” Sanders was born the third child of nine to the union of the Late Wes and Melee Askew Cowser on October 18, 1918 in Cherokee County, Al.
Cathlee’s sunrise in Christ began at an early age as she confessed him as her Lord and personal Savior and united with the Shiloh Baptist Church. She loved her church dearly by serving in many capacities even to the extent of selling food to keep the church going during economic struggles. She was a steady and faithful member until her health began to fail.
She was united in the Bonds of Holy Matrimony to Ilee Sanders. This union was blessed with three sons.
After the untimely death of her husband, “Mrs. Cat,” as she was affectionately called, became the sole provider for herself and her three sons. From caring her month old child on her back in the cotton fields to collecting cardboard and traveling to Austell, Ga. to recycle them, she left no rock unturned to care for her family.  She was an entrepreneur even before we knew the word existed. She was the proprietor and cook at the Big Apple Cafe and was know for her fried chicken. She valued the education of her sons and made it imperative that she sent them all to college to further their education.
A faithful servant of the Lord went home on Saturday, January 7, 2012 surrounded by her family after 93 years of sending up her timber.
She leaves to cherish her hard work and great devotion to her family three sons: Billy Sanders, Gadsden, Melvin (Pearl) Sanders, Rockville, MD., and Charles (Anita) Sanders, Centre; eight grandchildren: Nikki Sanders, O’Shea (Yvonne) Sanders, Ollie (Jessica) Sanders, Corey (Candace) Sanders, Ilee Sanders, Mandel (Tami) Sanders, Charmaine (Ben) Coleman, and Gwen Bothwell; thirteen great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother: William (Henrietta) Cowser, Portland, Oregon; a host of other relatives and friends.
