Emma Jean Greathouse was born August 30, 1939 in DeKalb County, Alabama to the union of the late Cecil and Ida Ellis Greathouse, Sr. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and continued with her worship at First Baptist Church-Douglas where she was a dedicated and steady member of Sunday School.

Ms. Emma Greathouse was educated in the DeKalb County School System, graduating from Frederick Douglas High School.  After graduating, she was self-employed for a number of years working independently in private homes until her retirement.

She departed this life on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Dekalb Regional Medical Center in Fort Payne, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, brothers, William Greathouse, Cecil Greathouse, Jr.  and sister-in-law, Willow Dean Greathouse.

She leaves her cherished memories to her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Gregory M. and June Greathouse; three grandchildren, April Jelks, Jamie Greathouse, Phillip Greathouse; four great-grandchildren, Joseph Greathouse, Aerionna Edwards, A’ziah Edwards, Elijah Greathouse;  sister, Lola Jennings; special nephews, Russell Greathouse, Ray Greathouse; special nieces, Chanda, Terri McGhee; very special friends: Peggy Cloyd, Glenda Gray, Betty Johnson, Nancy Tenneshaw and a host of other  nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends too numerous to name.
