Alfred L. Bolden was born September 15, 1930 to the parents of David Lee Bolden and Maggie Allen Bolden in Chambers County, Alabama. Two children were born to this union, Alfred and Zora Mae Bolden.

Alfred received his early education in Chambers County School System. Before leaving Chambers County, his mother married Rufus Knight. Then the family moved to Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama.

Alfred was drafted into the Army before leaving high school. He served his country during the Korean War conflict. After honorable discharge from the military, Alfred returned to Gadsden, Alabama. He completed his grade education under the VA Program, Mr. Gene Prater, Director.

Once Alfred returned home to Gadsden, he married Mattie R. Coats. To this union three children were born, Alvin Bernard Bolden, Melba R. Bolden and David Lee Bolden. Alfred and Mattie were married for a total of 26 years.

Alfred worked several jobs including construction, Alabama State Surplus- Camp Sibert, before learning of an opportunity at South Central Bell, which later merged into Bell South. He worked for this company for over 38 years before retiring. Shortly after retiring, Bell South was merged into A T & T.  Thank you, Mrs. Evelyn Muskett, for being a friend for many, many years.

Alfred united with Grant Chapel AME Church and served faithfully for many years. Alfred served as a trustee, usher and service to mankind. Later on in his life, Alfred joined the Cathedral of Praise. He became interested in growing spiritually; serving God and mankind. After his health failed and he no longer could serve as he truly desired, Alfred found peace. He loved when the pastor and members of the church visited.

Alfred made the peaceful transition on August 2, 2017.

Preceding Alfred in death was his dad, David Lee Bolden;  mother, Maggie Knight; his oldest son, Al Bolden;  sister, Zora Mae Knight; three brothers-in-law, W C Coats and Willie B. Knight and  Rev. Donnell Horton Bolden, a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

At the end of each life is a legacy of love and memories. Hold tight to those memories…. Lean on each other for support. And look to God’s Word, the Bible, for comfort and strength. 1 Peter 5:7 encourages; “Throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.”
