James Edward Allen, Jr. was born in Etowah County, Gadsden, Alabama to the parentage of Mr. & Mrs. James Edward and Pearlie Mae Bias Allen, Sr.

 

At an early age, James accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. James Allen Jr  joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Samuel Williamson.

 

James Edward, affectionately known as “Punkin”, attended the Gadsden City School system, graduating with the Class of 1972.

 

Soon after high school, James was employed with the City Parks and Recreation, where he remained a longtime employee.

 

James was united in Holy Matrimony to his loving wife, Wanda (Boley) Allen on February 25, 2000.

After James' retirement in 2004, he enjoyed spending time with wife and family.

 

James was preceded in death by his mother, Pearlie Bias Allen; his father, James E. Allen, Sr. and two brothers, Ralph Smith and Hugh Smith.

 

James leaves those to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Wanda B. Allen, Gadsden, AL; two loving daughters, LaTonya Owens, Weaver, AL, Jariqha Allen (Juan), Anniston, AL; four loving sons, Gerald (Sarah) Smith, Culpepper, VA, James (Timeka) Muhammad, Birmingham, AL, Jamaka (Amanda) Owens, Houston, TX, Kendrick (Jennifer) Vaughn, Gadsden, AL; eighteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Heglar, Birmingham, AL, Linda Cox Houser, Gadsden, AL; four brothers, Leon Smith, Billy Smith, Terry Smith, all of Gadsden, AL, Kenneth Allen (Frances), Rainbow City, AL;

 two loving aunts, Lela Rutledge, Columbus, OH, Effie Coats, Gadsden, AL; special brother, Larry Warren, Gadsden, AL; five brothers-in-laws, Terry Boley, Hartsford, AL, Randy Lisa Boley, Fortson, GA, Darren Boley, Gadsden, AL, Daniel Underwood, Atlanta, GA, Kenneth Underwood, Gadsden, AL; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Smith, Harvey, IL, Sheral Boley, Gadsden, AL and a host of nieces, nephews and other relative and friends which are too numerous to name.

Grief can be so hard, but our cherished memories help us cope. Hold tight to those memories…. Lean on each other for support…. And look to God’s word the Bible, for comfort and strength. James 4:8 encourages; “Draw close to God, and He will draw close to you.”
