Minnie Pearl Herron Wansley was born January 20, 1943 to the union of the late Henry and Annie Murl Watts Herron in Sycamore, Talladega County, Alabama.  Her formal education was received in the Talladega County School System.

Minnie Pearl accepted Christ as her Lord and savior at a young age. Upon moving to Gadsden, she united with Morning Star Baptist Church and served under the pastorate of Rev. Z. Andre Huff and later under the pastorate of Pastor Jeremy Bowman. As her health began to fail, she was unable to attend regularly, yet she still faithfully read her Bible.

Pearl, as she more affectionately called, was known for being a great seamstress and making many clothes and garments for friends and family. Her gift enabled her to find employment in such type factories, which provided her means to care for herself and her family. Pearl also enjoyed working search word puzzles. Even though this was hobby didn’t gain her any type of employment, she enjoyed it nonetheless.

On the Saturday, June 9, 2018, Pearl traded this life’s woes for sweet rest surrounded with family at home. She joins in this sweet rest her parents; her daughter, Carol Palmore Johnson; grandson, Reginald Marbury; granddaughter, Justice Garrett; great-granddaughter,  Reginae Marbury; sister, Emma Jean Williams; special friend, Oshea Duncan.

Pearl leaves to cherish her many memories her loving sister, Annie Jo Dewhart, Gadsden, AL; two daughters, Zelda (Billy) Brooks, Lisa Wansley Hale, both of Gadsden, AL; two sons, Billy Wansley, Jr. , Altoona, PA, Bryan (Jessica) Wansley, Gadsden, AL; fifteen grandchildren, Shevetta McKee, Virginia, LaDale (Teesha) Green, Georgia, Jeremy (Christea) Green, North Carolina, Lashieka (Eric) McKinney, Latoyia McKee, Chezaray Palmore, Ebony Collins, Candi Brooks, Billy (Shalonda) Brooks, Jr.,  Niesha Johnson, Jahkala Wansley, Jahmarae Wansley, Damari Wansley, Imere Wansley, all of Altoona, PA; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; special aunt, Odessa Saulsbury Chatman; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

My sincere condolences to your family in this time of sorrow. Many have lost loved ones in death and know the feelings of grief and sadness. Our heavenly father, Jehovah God understands those feelings also, and gives us comfort through his word the Bible with scriptures like Psalm 34:18 which says: “Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit. The wonderful hope for the future found at Revelation 21:3-5 gives me much comfort as well. May these scriptures help you to cope with your loss now and in the days ahead.
