Hazel Grady was born, to her proud parents, the late, George and Lilly  Daily, on October 30, 1929 in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama.

Hazel graduated from Carver High School. She received Christ at an early age, joining Morning Star Baptist Church.

Hazel was united in Holy matrimony to Henry Zeigler. To this union, eight children were born. She became active in the community by working at the Boys and Girls Club for eight years.

Shortly after, Hazel left Alabama to join her two sisters in Buffalo, New York. There she married and had four more children and joined the Church of God in Christ. Hazel was also active with the Eastern Star and served under the Sisters of Jeremiah. She later decided to join the family church, St. James Missionary Baptist Church, where her nephew, Rev. W. Halley was pastor. Hazel found joy serving in church as Pastor’s Aide, the Mothers’ Board and a number of other auxiliaries.

During her leisure time, she enjoyed planting flowers and watching them grow. She often got a kick out of all her concerned neighbors telling her to quit and get out of the sun.

The remainder of her day was spent watching soap operas and Cowboy movies.

Due to the illness of her mother, Hazel returned to Alabama to care for her. Here is where she remained a faithful member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Supt. A.F. Johnson. After his demise, Elder David L. Anderson, Sr. became her spiritual leader.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; children, Barbara Ward, Henry Zeigler, Ronald Zeigler, Thomas Zeigler; siblings, Lucy (Tillman), Dorothy (Lehman); half siblings, George and Mattie.

One of her greatest accomplishments and joys was raising her children; Hazel had thirteen children, six girls and seven boys, a set of twins and a number of other children she took under her wing.

Those left to cherish her memory, Nora (Cleatis) Caddele, Clora (Jimmy) Wingard, Hope Phillips,  Michael Zeigler, George (Diane) Zeigler, Elijah Bynum, Timothy Chatman;  64 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 23 great great grandchildren; God-chosen children, Della, Beverly, Nell, Mae, Teresa(Frank), Paul and a host of nieces nephews, cousins and other friends.

At the end of each life is a legacy of love and memories. Hold tight to those memories…. Lean on each other for support. And look to God’s Word, the Bible, for comfort and strength. 1 Peter 5:7 encourages; “Throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.”
