Oscar Lee Hayes was born March 4, 1923 to the late Isaiah “Ike” and Lola Mae Hayes in Attalla, Etowah County, Alabama.

Oscar accepted Christ, becoming a faithful member and servant at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Attalla. Now known as Mt. Zion Full Gospel, Oscar remained fervent in his service at church as a Deacon    and serving on the Trustee Board until his health hindered him from doing so.

As a young child, Oscar received his education in the public school system, graduating from Carver High School’s Class of 1941.

Shortly after high school, Oscar joined the military, serving his country for a number of years. Oscar was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1946.

Oscar was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony to Margie Scales. To this union, two children were born, Benjamin Hayes, Sr. and Lucrettia Hayes.

Oscar returned home from the military and accepted a job with U. S. Steel. He worked his way up through the years, starting as a motor room operator to a material handler, perfecting a number of other positions during his tenor there. Oscar remained a loyal employee until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margei Hayes; brother, Isaiah Hayes, Jr.; children, Oscar Lee Myles (Billy Boy), Benjamin Hayes (Ben), Lucretia Hayes (Ann); two grandsons, Kuntevous Forbes and Derrick Carter.

I attended college with Mr. Oscar's granddaughter Cicely. I met him almost 20 years ago. He was always such a nice person. Very humorous and full of life. He definitely displayed Christian values and walked what he talked. Prayers for the family. May Mr. Oscar rest in the arms of his maker!
