Sister Elsie Mae Card was born November 7, 1933 to the parentage of Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Lee and Luella Johnson in Auburn, Lee County, Alabama. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend answered her call home, just three days shy of her birthday on, Sunday, November 4, 2018.
 
Elsie, along with other siblings, was raised in Gadsden, Alabama from the age of 7. She attended school in the Etowah County School System.
 
Elsie was united with Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church at an early, accepting Christ as her Lord and Savior, serving on the Missionary Board until her health declined.
 
Elsie was married to James Hawkins and lived the rest of her life serving Etowah County well. Elsie was a huge advocate for her church and community and the like, serving diligently with the SCLC and the NAACP, as well as being a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
 
Elsie went home to be with the Lord, joining her parents, Arthur and Luella; husband, James Hawkins; brother, Joe Card; sisters, Annie Nell Card, Debbie Tamplin and Mary Card Johnson.
 
She leaves those to cherish her memory, daughter, Jasmine Hawkins; son, James (Nicole) Hawkins; grandchildren, Deja Hewitt, Semja Pitts, Joshua Hawkins, James Hawkins, Jr.; sisters, Mildred (Calvin) Hutchinson, Helen Card (Terry), Gail Card, Bonnie (Stanley) Vaughn; brothers,  Johnny Card, Rev. Tommy (Betty) Card, Herman Card, Terry Card, Dexter Card; special nieces, Erikka Card, Tawana Card; special cousin, Teddy Etheridge; special friends, Delma Smith, Betty White, Alfreada Barton and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
