Rolando Phillips was born December 15, 1971 in Gadsden, Alabama to Ms. Brenda Nelson and Mr. Marlon J. Phillips. He was educated in the city of his birth, graduating from Gadsden High School and attending Gadsden State Community College. He remained a resident of Alabama for the purpose of assisting with his mother’s health care.

Rolando confessed faith in Christ at an early age and united with Damascus Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Freddie Scott. He remained a member under the present leadership of Rev. Timothy Madden.

"Poochie" as he was affectionately known, was loved by many and known for his exceptional skills and talent on the basketball court.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. T. Ellis Phillips and Mr. & Mrs. John Henry Nelson and three aunts.

Poochie  was a loving son, father and grandfather. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Mrs. Brenda Alexander; father, Mr. Marlon J. Phillips; stepfather, Mr. Kenneth Alexander, all of Gadsden, Alabama; two daughters: Somalia (Warren) Haley, Portsmouth, VA, Jayla Stafford, Gadsden, AL; brother, Kenneth Jermaine Alexander;  sisters,  Kyouia (Damion) Davis, Jacksonville, FL and Chondra Phillips, a number of step sisters and brothers; aunt, Mrs. Bertha (Tyrone) Snow; special friends, Ms. Latonya Daniel and Mr. Lawrence Presley and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
