Mae Helen Pearson was born July 20, 1936 in Jasper, Walker County, County, Alabama to the union of the late Gus and Augusta L. Pettit Jelks. Her early education was received in the city of her birth.

At a point in her life, she moved to Detroit, MI where she became a member of The Prayer Temple Of Love. While in Detroit, she decided to further her education, receiving an Associate Degree. She became an employee of the Chevrolet Motor Company as well as the City School System of Detriot. On moving to Gadsden, AL, she united with Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

She was united in the bonds of holy matrimony to Billy Pearson.

Mae departed this life on Monday, March 25, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband; siblings, Dollie B. Pinson Haynes, Pauline Brown and Charlie Simmons. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted daughter, Wanda Faye Jelks; stepson, Anthony Leach ( Kim) grandchildren, Demetrius Jelks, Sr., Eric Jelks, Scottie Ruffin; 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Evon Johnson (Charlie, Jr.); special cousin, Dorothy King; a number of nieces, nephews, devoted friends and relatives.



Memorial service will be 3p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Bethel Missonary Baptist Church, Gadsden, Alabama.
