On May 17, 1968, Rita Michelle Hardnett, was born to Mr. James Patterson and the late Ms. Gladine Hardnett.

Rita received her formal education in the Gadsden public school system.

At an early age she confessed Christ and became a member of St. John C.M.E Church, were she remained a faithful and dedicated member until her health declined. During her time at St. John C.M.E Church, she loved serving in the church and the community.

Rita loved her family and played a very valuable part in helping raise her nieces and nephews.

                On Tuesday, August 27, 2019, Rita departed this life at Gadsden Regional Hospital. She has reunited with her mother, Gladine Hardnett; sisters, Melody Patterson, Carol Hardnett Heard, and niece, April Hardnett.

Rita leaves to cherish her memory her father, James Patterson, Harrisburg, PA; sisters, Gloria Elaine Kyle, Gadsden, AL, Taneka Patterson, Harrisburg, PA; special sister, Melissa Hardnett, Pekin, IL; nephews, Xavier Hardnett, Tory Kinard, Gadsden, AL, LaBrannon Hardnett, Pekin, IL; nieces, Tiffany (Jason) Woodard, Stephanie Kinard, Taura Heard, Willette Heard, Gadsden, AL, Gia Robinson; great nieces, Jasmine, Zariah and Xaviera Hardnett; great-nephews, Torrian Kinard and Xavier Hardnett, Jr.; great great-nephew, Kaysen Hardnett; uncles, Charles Patterson, Harrisburg, PA, Roosevelt (Vicki) Hardnett, Jr., Colorado Springs, CO, Rev. Freddie (Shari) Scott, Birmingham, AL, Glenn (Lydia) Glover, Gadsden, AL; special friend, Robert "Jap" Holt, Gadsden, AL; special cousins, Larry and Loise King; a host of other relatives and friends.

The family sends a special thank you to Larry and Loise King, Elea Bradford, Vicki Shack-Eckford, Amy, Shanna, Sunnie and the staff of Gadsden Health and Rehab.

Celebration of Life is 1:00p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at St. John C. M. E. Interment following at Lincoln Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family is 6:00-7:00p.m. Monday, September 2, 2019 at the Etowah Chapel of Adams-Buggs Funeral Service.
