Music by The Piano Brothers

On August 15, 1925 Mr. David Bland was born, in Coffeeville, Mississippi, to the union of the late Mr. Sam and Lillian Cornelia Jones Bland.  He was the third born of ten children.

At an early age, David accepted Christ and united with New Mt. Sinai Church in Memphis. He was a faithful member, and served diligently until his sight failed him. In later years David moved to Gadsden, Alabama and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He would sit on the front bench, helped teach Sunday school, and didn’t mind praising and worshipping the Lord.

In December of 1943 to December of 1948, he faithfully served our country in the United States Army, as a construction machine operator. He completed his tours of duty in France, Germany, Italy, Okanowa, Panama Canal to the Pacific Lucian Island, crossing the International Date Line several times during World War II.

He was a very hard worker, and worked all his life. For many years he picked cotton, was employed by the Fruhal Trailer Company building trailers, worked at Dublin Glass Company in Chicago, and during the MLK Era he worked at the Memphis Sanitation Department for 20 years.

David had a beautiful heart filled with joy and laughter. He never met a stranger and was the life of the party. He loved fishing, BBQ Grilling, sitting on the front porch in the sun.

On Friday, November 15, 2019, David gracefully answered the Master's call. He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Maybelle King Bland; his parents; brothers, Roger Bland, Oliver Bland, Stanley Kimble, Charles Kimble; sisters, Pauline Kimble, Carrie Love, and Mary Kimble.

He leaves to cherish precious memories, one stepdaughter, Irma Jean Johnson; four step-grandchildren, all of Memphis, TN; two sisters, Mildred Carpenter, Chicago, IL, Elizabeth Bill, Memphis, TN; one sister-in-law, Rosemary Kimble, Memphis, TN; dedicated loving caretakers niece, nephew and family, Jimmie and Brother Louis Leonard Sr., Kem, LePrecious and Louis Jr.; his special love, Lillian and Joy; special cousin, Jolinda Ester, California; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
