Dorothy Mae Griffin was born September 2, 1934 in Clay County, Alabama to the union of the late Jeff and Annie Mae Bailey Griffin.

Dorothy Mae was educated in the Clay County School System and attended the Clay County Training School. She accepted Christ at a young age and attended New Hope Baptist Church where most of her family worshiped.

Dorothy Mae was united in holy matrimony to Frank Stripling. One son, Tommy, was born to this union. After Frank’s passing, Dorothy united with Barcellus Welch until the Lord called him home. Her later years, she enjoyed the companionship of Cozell Thomas.  Also in later years, Dorothy Mae rededicated her life to Christ, was baptized and united with Freewill Worship Center under the pastorate of Pastor Billy Wayne and Prophetess Lisa Simmons.

Dorothy Mae was known for her loving attributes as a care-taker especially that of children. She took care of many children from the dwelling of her own home and even raised some as her own. With caring for so many children, she had to know how to cook well and that she did. She was known for her dressing, teacakes, biscuits and creamed corn. Her favorite to cook though was chicken and dumplings. She also was quick on her feet. She often walked to different places in the community and would give you a good workout if you joined her.

Dorothy Mae traded in her walking shoes for two wings on December 31, 2019. She was preceeded in death by her parents; husbands; siblings, Maewill, Pearl, Mozell Robert, Kent and J. B.

Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Tommy Stripling (Mary), Carrollton, GA; sister, Irene Goggins, East Rutherford, NJ; grandchildren, Regina Stripling (Curtis) Hunter, Carrolton, GA, Tommy Terrell Sterling, Nashville, TN, Toniece Stripling (Antron), Carrolton, GA; step-grandchildren, Rena Hill, Shaundra Hill, Calvin Heflin, all of Carrollton, GA; great-grandchildren, Briana Caldwell, Tytianna Hunter, Cuteria Hunter, Jekalyn Stripling, Curtis Stripling, Ariyah Kidd, Breasia Sterling; special children, Preston Phillips, Fannie Bishop, Mattie Simmons; special grandchildren, Pam Thomas, Melissa Todd; special nieces, Carolyn Lindsey, Geanette Simmons; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life will be 1:00p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Freewill Worship Center, Goodwater, Pastor Billy Wayne Simmons, officiating, Prophetess Lisa Simmons, Eulogist. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Barfield.Visitation with the family will be 12 Noon until time for the service.
