Charles Edward Terry, affectionately known as “Chili” was born in Gadsden, Etowah County, AL was born April 9, 1944 to the union of Willie and Josephine Freeman Terry, Jr.

At an early age he confessed Christ and joined Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. W.M. Mallory.

Charles was educated in the Gadsden Public School System, graduating from Carver High School, class of 1962. While attending Carver, he played basket ball under the leadership of coach L.C. Presley.He became a Taxi Cab Driver for a period of time after graduation before joining the United States Air Force for four years. Upon completion of his military duties,  Charles made his home in Cleveland, OH, where he worked as a skilled carpenter foe the Ford Motor Company.While he was here, he met and married Rita Washington. Their unin was blesses with one son, Terrance, who preceded him in death at the age of nine.

Charles had a number of hobbies, one of which was serving as a D.J., and making tapes of “Old School” Music. His passion for golf resulted in him winning many trophies.

Charles’ earthly life came to an end on Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Floyd E. Tuck State Veteran’s Home in Huntsville, AL. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Pearl McCain, father; brother, Ricky Stover; nephews, Jeffery Griffin and Darrell Woody.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Josephine Robinson, Gadsden, AL;  three sisters,  Diretha Allen (Walter), of Gadsden, AL, Carolyn Woody, Detroit, MI, Marcia P. Byers, Chicago, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Charles Terry, 75, Huntsville, formerly of Gadsden, departed this life on Friday, January 3, 2020. Celebration of Life will be 1:00p.m. Friday, January 10, 2020 at the Etowah Chapel of Adams-Buggs Funeral Service, Pastor Ivan Cattling, Sr. Officiating. Interment will follow at Lincoln Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Noon Friday until time for the service.
