Nell Dorothy Dovie McElrath was born April 9, 1933 to the union of Evans Wiley and Nettie Irodie Malone McElrath in Lebanon, Dekalb County, Alabama.


Nell Dorothy confessed Christ at an early age and became a full member of the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church up until her health declined. She attended Frederic Douglas High School in Fort Payne, Alabama. Nell loved singing in the group with her sisters, the Legendary Seven Sisters. Also singing “Oh Mary Don’t you weep” with her brother, John Leonard. Once her brother and sisters passed away, Nell continued singing solo. Her favorite hobbies included fishing, crocheting, yard selling and cross word puzzles. She loved selling ribbons at Georgia-Alabama-Tennessee Singing Convention. Nell loved spending time with her family and friends. She was caring and loving individual to many people and had a way of making anyone smile and feel special. She never met a stranger where ever she went.


Nell Dorothy departed this earthly life on Wednesday, February 12, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Evans and Nettie McElrath; son, Myron “Bo Bo” McElrath;  grandsons, Steven McElrath, Randy Carter; son-in-law, James Moore; brother, John Leonard McElrath; sisters, Mildred McElrath, Lola Bell McElrath, Agnes Bynum, Mabel Hendrix, Thelma Jelks, Bernice Jelks

Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Collinsville, Rev. Ralph Jelks, Pastor. Interment will follow at the adjoining cemetery.
