Dorothy Joe Covington, 89, Centre, Ball Play Community, died Sunday, March 22, 2020. Graveside Service will be 12 Noon Thursday, March 26, 2020 at New Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Bro. Billy Warren will officiate. Viewing will be from 11:00a.m until time for the service at the adjoining church.

Dorothy Joe Covington was born on November 5, 1930 in Cherokee County, Alabama to the union of the late Joe and Ida Inez Burks Kennon.

At an early age, Dorothy confessed Christ and continued to attend New Bethel United Methodist Church in Ball Play, Alabama.

Dorothy attended elementary school at Ball Play Community School and graduated from Carver High School in Gadsden, Alabama. She went on to complete her education at Miles College, Birmingham, AL earning a B.S. Degree in Education. She utilized her degree as an educator in the Cherokee County School System for thirty-two years until her retirement in 1992.

Dorothy united in the bonds of holy matrimony to Webster Covington February 1950. This union was blessed with one daughter, Cassandra.

On Sunday, March 22, 2020, Dorothy bid farewell to this earthly life. She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and one sister.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Cassandra (Hurley) Foster; two grandchildren, Shaundra (Ashley) Bridges, McCalla, AL, Zavier (Tiffani) Foster, Calera, AL; four great-grandchildren, Dorian Bridges, Sabria Bridges, Xander Foster, Carter Foster; one aunt, Ruth (T.A.) Trammell, Gadsden, AL; one sister-in-law, Mary Kennon, Decatur, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
