Darrell V. Gilson was born December 3, 1955 in Detroit, MI to the union of Jack and Lillie Mae (Harper) Gilson. Darrell graduated from Fenger High School (Chicago) in June 1975.  

 

After graduating, Darrell attended a number of Technical Schools before joining the US Army where he obtained the rank of Spec5, and earned the Army Good Conduct Award, Korea Occupation Medal, .45 Pistol and M16 Marksman Badge to name a few of his accolades. Darrell received an honorable discharged from the Department of the Army after 11 years of honorable service. After the Army, Darrell worked for major industrial companies such as John Crane and Lockheed Martin as a Machinist. Darrell also had a caring heart that lead him to McGuffey's Assisted Living Facility where he helped those individuals that couldn't do for themselves. 

 

Darrell departed this life on August 9, 2020. He was preceded in death by his Mother Lillie Mae; brother Jack Jr., and sister, Ann.  

 

He leaves behind his father, Jack Sr.; loving wife Denise; his daughters, Pauline, Zipporah, Sarah, and Rachel; step-daughters, Danielle and Erica; his sister, Roslyn Jones; his brothers, Jerrold and Brian Gilson and their families; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a number of loving nieces, nephews, along with a host of other family and friends. 

Celebration of Life will be 5:00p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the Etowah Chapel of Adams-Buggs Funeral Service. Visitation will be 4:00-5:00p.m. at the chapel. Burial with military honors will be 11:45a.m. Monday, August 17, 2020 at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.
