It is with heartfelt sympathy that we announce the passing of Mr. Arthur James Hood, Gadsden, AL, who transitioned from his earthly life on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the age of 76.  We ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Master Sargent E7, Arthur James Hood was born, August 17, 1944 to the union of Octavie and Margaret Hughes Hood. He became a member of Sweet Home Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Carver High School, class of 1962. He then joined the United States Air Force and later married Lillie Ruth Tyus (Deceased) and to this union three children were born. He served during the Vietnam War, then served in Korea and Germany and then back to the United States in 1980 and was stationed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Michigan. During his stay in the Air Force he had outside jobs along with attending Macomb Community College in Michigan. In1987, after retirement he became an ROTC Instructor at Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Michigan and continued to work doing odd jobs.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Octavie and Margaret Hughes Hood, his brothers Laymon Hood and James Hood, sister Ramona Thomas.

He later met Verlinda Ransaw Hood they were united in Holy matrimony on July 6, 1996 in Gadsden, Alabama. They resided in Mount Clemens, Michigan and attended Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. They later moved their membership to Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. In 2007 they decided to return home to Gadsden, Alabama where they united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Arthur and Verlinda were married for 24 years. On Sunday, June 27, 2021 he was called home to be with the Lord.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Verlinda Hood, Gadsden, AL; sons Louis (Sabrina) Hood, Warren, MI and Anthony Hood, Clinton Township, MI, his daughter Renetta (Melvin) Lasenby, Spanaway, WA; his Goddaughter, Kimlya Lee, Davidson, NC; his daughters, Jowannis and Vanesia Gray, Gadsden, AL; God-daughter Sabrina Aaron, Montgomery, AL; brother, Eddie (Elnora) Hood, Rome, GA; sisters, Patricia (Steven) Tuck Jonesboro, GA, BIG sis Brenda Marshall Gadsden, AL; god-son, Craig Rice, Yuba City, CA; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grand children, a special granddaughter and a host of aunts, nieces, and nephews.
