Mr. Zebedee “Big D” Goodson, Sr. was born on September 2, 1924, in Prattville,

Autauga County, Alabama, to the union of the late Jesse Horace and Ollie Townsend Goodson.

 

He graduated from Autauga County High School where he excelled as a Basketball Player. “Big D” moved to Attalla, Alabama in 1945. He worked at The Republic Steel Corporation in Gadsden, Alabama for some forty-two years, before retiring from LTV Corporation. He was a faithful and devoted member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Attalla, Alabama, where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board.

 

He was united in the bonds of holy matrimony with Mary M. Hale. Their union was blessed with six children, one of whom died in childhood.

 

All that knew “Big D” knew that he loved his family, his church, and his friends.

 

He departed this earthly home to his eternal home on Sunday, April 10, 2011. He was

Preceded in death by brothers: Jack, Harvey ,and Joseph; sister, Rosalee, children: Zebedee, Jr., Veronica, and Eloise.

 

He leaves to cherish loving memories, his devoted and loving wife, Mary; sons: James (Saratha), Gadsden, Curtis, Hawaii, Cedric, Ohio, and Lakoss, Wisconsin; daughters; Bonnie Sue (Arnold), Pennsylvania,  Yvonne, Ohio, Eunice (Lee ), Elaine, all of Chicago Heights, Illinois, Linda, Juanita, Faye(Tommy), Danita(Freddie) all of Gadsden, Alabama, and Cassandra, Wisconsin; a host of grandchildren, great-grand-children, and great-great-grandchildren; aunt, Leola Lucas, Chattanooga, Tennessee; brother-in-law, James C. Hale, Cleveland, Ohio; a host of other relatives and many dear friends.

Celebration of Life will commence 12 Noon Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Mt Zion Baptist Church, Attalla, Pastor Harold Kimble, Officiating. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Garden.
