With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Alfonza Lovell "Brains" Garrett, Sr., of Lineville, who traded time for eternity on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the age of 76.
Mr. Alfonza Lovell Garrett, Sr. was born on October 7, 1948 to the parentage of the late Masrine and Luther Garrett of Lineville, Alabama. He was the third of nine children.
He attended the Clay County Training School and graduated in 1967. While attending school there, he met the love of his life Miss Wanda Lee Green, and they were married March 19, 1967 and remained as one for the next 58 years. To this union three loving children were born: Angela Renae Garrett, Alfonza Lovell Garrett Jr., and Sedrick Wayne Garrett.
Alfonza joined Springhill Baptist Church at the age of nine and remained a dedicated and faithful member throughout his life. His commitment to his church was unwavering, rarely missing a Sunday service. Under the Pastorship of Reverend Curtis Owens, Alfonza was ordained as a Deacon in 1970. He was later elected Chairman of the Deacon Board Ministry in 1972, a position he held until his transition on January 11, 2025. Alfonza’s life was marked by his deep faith, his loving family, and his dedication to his community. His legacy will be cherished by all who knew him, and he will forever be remembered with love and admiration.
In addition to his spiritual dedication, Alfonza was the proud owner and operator of Al’s Rock and Gravel Hauling in Lineville, Alabama, where he served his community with pride and integrity.
Alfonza was preceded in death by his cherished grandson, Blake C. Garrett, whose memory will remain in the hearts of the family.
