Mrs. Alyce Louise Sullivan Thomas was born on August 3, 1931, in Wellington, AL to the late Mrs. Willie B. Sullivan and John A. Sullivan.
Mrs. Alyce was passionate about teaching history, especially to black students. She stated that they need to know the history of what African Americans have accomplished and what it took to achieve the civil rights guarantees that are in place now and the work that remains. Mrs. Alyce marched alongside her good friend Mildred Williams and other Gadsden residents that were involved in civil rights efforts across Gadsden for decades. She marched in the 1960's and with Dr. J. W. Stewart in 1978, protesting the police shooting of Collis Madden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Thomas (the love of her life); three children, Hosea Guice, Jr., Paula Nichols and Yul Guice; grandchildren, Carmen Guice and Brian Byrd; sister, Jonnie Mae Smith; brothers, Willie B. Sullivan, Maxie Sullivan and Orlando Sullivan.
