With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Annie Sue Melson of Houston, TX, formerly of Gadsden, who traded time for eternity on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the age of 88.
Annie Sue Woods-Melson was born on June 21, 1936 in Eutaw, Alabama to the late Willard Byers and Alexina Ishman. She later moved to Ashville before settling in Gadsden, AL.
Annie Sue accepted Christ at a young age and kept the faith which developed her into a spirit filled Christian that wore the whole armor of God with pride. She was a faithful member of Sweet Home United Methodist Church (currently under the leadership of Rev. Michael Robertson, Pastor) for many decades. She was active in the United Methodist Women, Youth Ministry, Choir, Usher Board, Kitchen Committee and many more auxiliaries within the church. Annie Sue didn't ask anyone living under her roof if they wanted to attend church on Sunday, it was expected as a rite of passage to build their faith for the future.
She was educated in the Gadsden public school system and received her diploma from Carver High School. She worked many jobs to provide for her family and later retired from Baptist Memorial Hospital (Gadsden Regional) and demonstrated that it takes a strong work ethic to make it in life. She would often say "you ain't getting nothing out of life unless you work to earn it."
Annie Sue enjoyed cooking special meals and deserts, having fun with friends, watching her favorite TV action shows, listening to music and watching her children entertain her house guests. She always wanted her children to teach her the latest dance.
Annie Sue departed this earthly life on Sunday, December 1, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joseph Stamps and John Woods, Sr.; grandsons, Shondre Walker and Jonathan Melson, Sr.; a special close cousin, Laura Bell Williams Frazier.
