Audrey Andrews Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy,  we announce the earthly transition of Audrey Bernice Chambers Andrews of Ballplay, who traded mortal for immortality on Friday, July 3, 2026 at the age of 79.

Audrey Bernice Chambers Andrews was born on September 5, 1946, in Ballplay, Alabama, to the loving union of Jack William Chambers and Ruby Cowser Chambers.

From an early age, Bernice accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a lifelong, faithful member of New Bethel United Methodist Church in Ballplay. Her love for God was reflected in a lifetime of devoted service to the church she loved. She faithfully served as Church Pianist, Sunday School Teacher, Chairperson of the Administrative Board and Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and Delegate to Annual Conference. She also played a vital role in planning church programs and took great pride in caring for the church and its grounds.

Bernice graduated from Hatcher High School in Centre, Alabama, with the Class of 1964. She formed lifelong friendships with her classmates that she treasured throughout the years. Her love for her community continued throughout her life as she served on the Hatcher Community Center Committee, helping preserve its history and heritage.

Following graduation, Bernice began a career with Alabama Power Company in Gadsden, Alabama, where she worked for 35 years before retiring. She was known for her dedication, strong work ethic, and the lasting friendships she formed with many of those alongside whom she worked.

On April 12, 1968, Bernice was united in holy matrimony with Larry James Andrews, and to this union one son, Kelvin Lernard Andrews, was born. Her family was one of life’s greatest blessings, and few things brought her more joy than watching her beloved granddaughter, Desiree Arnece’a Andrews, grow into a remarkable young woman.

Bernice embraced life with gratitude and joy. She loved singing with community choirs, tending her flowers, working in the yard, and sitting on the porch listening to her favorite Gospel and Blues music. An avid reader and sports enthusiast, she also had a wonderful sense of style and carried herself with elegance and grace.

On Friday, July 3, 2026, Bernice completed her earthly journey and entered into the eternal presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Rosie Chambers and Jacqueline Covington; her brothers, Charles Chambers, Herley Chambers, Bobby Joe Chambers, and William Chambers.

Cherishing her precious memory are her husband, Larry Andrews of Pollard’s Bend, Alabama; her son and daughter-in-law, Kelvin and Donnita Andrews of Pollard’s Bend, Alabama; her granddaughter, Desiree Andrews of Pollard’s Bend, Alabama; her siblings, Johnnie Cowser of Ballplay, Alabama, Sadie (Jimmie) Pitts of Montgomery, Alabama, Malcolm (Donna) Chambers of Ballplay, Alabama, and Carlton Chambers of Piedmont, Alabama; her sisters-in-law, Diane Chambers of Birmingham, Alabama, Mildred Land of Sun City, Florida, Sandra Chambers of Pontiac, Michigan, Sharon Chambers of Pontiac, Michigan, Margaret McElrath of Pollard’s Bend, Alabama, Lena Green of Gadsden, Alabama, Donna Andrews of Birmingham, Alabama, and Paula Andrews (Charles) of Pollard’s Bend, Alabama; together with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Whether she was affectionately calling her son “MY Little Boy,” known as “Grandma Down the Road” to her granddaughter, one of “The Golden Girls” alongside Bob, Margaret Sue, and Lotatist, or “Aunt B” to so many who loved her, Bernice brought warmth, joy, and love wherever she went. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, kind heart, and gentle spirit. Her life was a beautiful testimony of faith, service, and love.
