Ben Bynum, Jr. Obituary

Ben Bynum, Jr. entered peacefully into eternal life on December 7, 2022, at Doctors Hospital, in Agusta, Georgia.  He was born in Portersville, Alabama on April 30, 1934, to Reverend Ben Bynum, Sr., and Lola Bell Bynum.

Ben graduated from Gregory High School in 1951. Two years later, he enlisted in the United States Army. His military tours of duty included South Korea, South Vietnam, Japan, and Germany.  He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal of Valor, Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, and numerous other distinguished awards. After twenty-two years of honorable service, Ben retired with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Ben was not one to easily settle into retired life after the military. He became an employee of Georgia Power Company in Waynesboro, Georgia, and held the position of Mechanical Quality Control Inspector during the construction of the Vogtle Nuclear Power Plant. During his tenure with Georgia Power, he concurrently studied to achieve a Bachelor of Science Degree from New York State University in Albany, New York.

Ben was very ambitious and knowledgeable on various subjects; however, his passion was real estate. He was the CEO/Owner of Safeway Reality for over thirty years and was a certified Real Estate Broker and Real Estate Appraiser.   He also held a certification in Real Estate Law.

Ben had a passion for family and traveling and experienced the joys of many vacations, reunions, and cruises. He was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and made Williams Memorial C.M.E. Church of Augusta, Georgia his church home for many years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Ben Bynum Sr.; mother, Lola Bell Bynum; four brothers; and five sisters.

Ben leaves to cherish his memory: loving and devoted wife of sixty-three years, Evelyn Roberts Bynum of Augusta, GA; three loving children, Genene (Jeffery) Kendrick of Albany, GA, Michelle Bynum York of Tucker, GA, and Ronnie J. Bynum of Buford, GA; two sisters, Reverend Lucy Bynum Granderson, and Ms. Bettye Bynum Battle, both of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Reverend Albert Bynum of Gadsden, AL; five grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives, and friends.
