Beverly Faye Hickman, age 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, after a difficult battle with cancer.
Beverly, best known as “Bep,” was born August 16, 1947, to Samuel Wilson and Juanita Kerley Wilson in Gadsden, AL.
She was a proud graduate of Carver High School Class of 1965 and remained an active alumnus participating in school-related functions and events. Upon graduating from high school, Beverly attended Morristown College in Morristown, TN earning her Associate of Arts Degree in 1967. After graduation she was a substitute teacher in the Gadsden City School System before moving into food production. Bep understood hard work and did so every day during her decades long career working in production at Tyson Foods and Koch where she retired from in 2009.
Family and community were important to Beverly. From family gatherings, holidays and sporting events, she cherished time together. If she called you family, you were family. At home on “The Hill,” Bep loved the front porch. She had her favorite seat where she would talk, laugh, give advice (wanted or not but always worthwhile), and keep an eye on the hill. Bep also enjoyed reading particularly Danielle Steele novels and watching Hallmark movies and TV Classics. She has passed down the love for a good classic like The Andy Griffith Show, In the Heat of the Night, and Bonanza to her sons and even grandchildren. Bep loved the Lord! She was a member of Sweet Home United Methodist Church. Beverly’s faith was strong and evident when she received her cancer diagnosis and declared that it was all “in God’s hands.” She trusted in God and now is at peace in her heavenly home.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Wilson, and Juanita Kerley Wilson.
She is survived by her children, Amiri (Donna) Hickman of Gadsden, AL and Jamaal (Sunni) Hickman of Suwanee, GA; father of her children, William Varley Hickman, Jr.; grandchildren, Jamillah (Nick) Brown, Dawn Hickman, Jalyn Hickman, Amirah Hickman and Jayla Hickman; great-grandchildren, Jada Hickman, Noah Brown, Omari Davis and Journee Brown; siblings, Delma (John) Smith, Howard Wilson, Donna (Tim) Morrow, Timothy (Amy) Wilson and Carla Wilson; brothers-in-law, Donald (Janet) Hickman, James (Vanessa) Hickman and Greg Hickman; nephews and nieces, Ali (LaMesha) Smith, Samuel (Stephanie) Smith, LaToya Wilson, Howard Wilson, Jr., Shannon Wilson, Carlie B.
