Clarice Robinson Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the transition of Mrs. Clarice Harrell Robinson, of Gadsden, AL, who transitioned on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the age of 73.  We ask that you keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Clarice Harrell Robinson was born on July 20, 1950, in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama to the union of the late Elder “Buster” and James Spencer Harrell.  She was the youngest of six children, five of her siblings preceded her in death.

At an early age, Clarice accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized by the late Rev. E.W. Jarrett at Galilee Baptist Church, Gadsden, Alabama.  She served under his leadership and under the leadership of Rev. G. E. Robinson.  In January 1988, she and her family moved their membership to First Missionary Baptist Church of Alabama City, Alabama under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr.  John M. Woods, Sr.  Since October of 2023, she served under the leadership of Pastor Samuel R. Jackson.  During her duration at First Baptist Church, Clarice served as the Financial Secretary/ Church Clerk, President of the Deaconess Ministry, member of the S.L. Woods Missionary Circle, Women’s Sunday School Class and she served as President of the Wills Creek District Deacons’ Wives Auxiliary.  In all her roles in the church and the community, Clarice was dedicated to serving people and showing them genuine love.  She ensured that if any person was in need, she was determined to fill that gap.

Clarice’s educational career began when she attended Central Elementary School, then progressed to Nancy Oden Junior High School and then was a PROUD 1968 graduate of Carver High School.  Even until her time of transition, Clarice loved her classmates dearly and she was the glue that held them together, and the rock when they needed support. There was never a time that anyone of them could not call and count on her.  A few years after attending high school, Clarice attended Gadsden Business College where she received a degree in Business Management/Human Resources.

Clarice began her career as a kindergarten teacher in January of 1973, at Project Peep which later became Head Start.  When the program went through a transitional period of closing, Clarice left her career of teaching.  She was later hired at the City of Gadsden on July 22, 1981, and worked for thirty-six years and nine months in the Personnel Department.  During her tenure, she interacted directly with most, if not all the City’s employees.  In addition to her duties as Personnel Clerk III, she served as Secretary-Treasurer to the City Civil Service Board and was a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment.  On May 1, 2018, Clarice retired and was ready to see what this new chapter held in her life.  After retirement, she dedicated her time to still working as the Secretary-Treasurer of the City Civil Board, being of assistance to the elderly in her church family, continuing her clerical duties for the church, trying new recipes, and continuing to perfect the “old faithful” ones, and crafting. Clarice was creative naturally and she always used her creativity in anything that she was asked to do or that she found of interest.

Clarice was united in Holy Matrimony to Paul J. Robinson on June 7, 1986.  To this union, one daughter, Paulette Patrice was born.  Paulette was the pride and joy of her life; she dedicated her entire life to ensuring there was no lack in her family especially with her baby girl.  Paulette describes her mother as her lighthouse and anchor because the lighthouse directs us in troubled waters, and the anchor is what holds us down.

Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, Elder “Buster” and James Spencer Harrell; siblings in the chronological order of their births, Harry Harrold, Milton Harrold, Sr., Gwendolyn Harrell Nelson, Richard Harrell, and Raymond Harrell.

Clarice answered the Master’s call on February 15, 2024.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted husband of thirty-seven years, Deacon Paul J. Robinson; a beautiful and dedicated daughter, Paulette Patrice Robinson, Wetumpka, AL; bonus children and their spouses, Michael Robinson, Montgomery, AL, Michelle (John) Saunders, Atlanta, GA, Attorney Stephen (Sonja) Robinson, Esq, Atlanta, GA., Cristy (Michael) Sanders, Atlanta, GA, Craig Robinson, Montgomery, AL, and LaVitre (Gerald) Williams, Gadsden, AL; eight bonus grandchildren, and three bonus great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Josephine Harrold, Gadsden, AL, Linda Harrell, Des Moines, IA, Alice Patterson, Ecletic, AL, Shane Freeman, Albany, NY and Mary Freeman Robinson, Montgomery, AL; nieces and nephews, Bruce, Harriet, Renee, Michael, Kendall, Trina, Teresa, Albert (Milton) Jr., Alton, Bonita, Ben, Richard Ken, and LaTanya along with their families and a host of great-nieces and great- nephews and cousins; her godmother, Mrs. Fannie Mae Remson, Gadsden, AL; god-daughter, Jamila Griffin, Gadsden, AL; special friends, Brenda Johnson, Buffalo, NY, Doris Mason Martin, Washington, D.C., Sharon Webb Abrams and Addie Jo Berry Chambers, both of Birmingham, AL, Sylvia Craig, Evelyn Faye Lindsey, James Nelson, Mary Carter, Shirley James Hall, Norva Wood, Bobbie Landrum, RayNell Collins, Barbara Woods and Eloise Whisenant, all of Gadsden, AL, her church family, and a host of other relatives and friends.
