It is with heartfelt sympathy that we announce the passing of Mr. Dwight Earl "Jake" Sumpter of Sacramento, CA, formally of Gadsden, AL who transitioned on Monday, September 12, 2022, at the age of 61. We ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. 

 

Dwight Earl Sumpter was born on August 2, 1961, to the late Edna Lee (Sumpter) Jordan and Homer Lee Jordan, Jr. in Gadsden, Alabama. 
 

He was a graduate of Gadsden High School Class of 1981. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged. 
 

Dwight confessed Christ at an early age and later joined Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, Gadsden, Alabama under the leadership of Rev. Roderick Thomas. 
 

He worked at the Port of Oakland in California for several years. 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents mother, Edna Lee (Sumpter) Jordan; father, Homer Lee Jordan, Jr.; grandparents, Hattie Mae Robinson, Willie Joe Sumpter, Homer Jordan Sr., and Lena Talley. 


Dwight answered God's call and peacefully transitioned on Monday, September 12, 2022. 1n God's special way, at his perfect time, picked from our midst this beautiful soul and added him to his heavenly garden, where his spirit will bloom forever. Dwight "Jake" will be truly missed but never forgotten. 


He leaves to cherish his beautiful memories his wife, Chantay Sumpter; daughter, Ayanna Ford; sons, DeMarcus King, Denzel Sumpter, and Micarrie Ford, Sr.; god-daughter, Makyla Riley; grandsons, Drayden King and Micarrie Ford, Jr.; sisters, Tamiko Jordan, Sandra Jordan; broth­ers, Stedric (Latosha) Jordan, Sr., Ashante Jordan; nieces, Taylor Jordan, Kennedi Hill, Lashondra Hinton, Amie (Willie) Sykes, Christina Hinton, Cymone Bell, Shanice Bell, Amber Bell, Falon Grazes, Brooke Douthit; nephews, Stedric Jordan, Jr., LaTodric and TaRodric Jordan, Albee Bell, Ashton Douthit; aunts, Mary Frances Butler Betty Jean Sumpter, Barabara (Roy) Gra, Ella Mae Childs, Marsha Talley and Freda Stanton, Elois Ward; uncle, James Sumpter; father-in-law, Henry Douthit, Sr.; sister-in-law, Heaney Douthit; brother-in-law, Kerry Douthit and Henry (Dionne) Douthit, Jr., a host of cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of relatives, and many dear friends.
