Eleanor Derico-Cox Obituary

It is with deep sympathy, that we are announcing the passing of Eleanor Coleman-Cox of Gadsden, AL, who transitioned on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the age of 83.  We ask that you keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.  

 

On January 27, 1941, Eleanor Coleman was born in Gadsden, Alabama. He was the second child born to the union of Jesse Coleman, Sr., and Willie Catherine Teague Coleman.

 

Eleanor received her formal education in the Gadsden City School System. She continued her education at Alabama State College, where she studied cosmetology.

 

As a young child, Eleanor accepted Jesus Christ and joined Union Baptist Church. Later, she became a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Charles Posey. She served as a Trustee and was a member of the Missionary Society until her health began to deteriorate. 

Eleanor retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after many years of service. She was also a cosmetologist in the Gadsden community for over fifty years.

 

Later in life Eleanor began to enjoy Arts and Crafts and was known for her floral arrangements and decorative baskets. She especially loved her grandchildren, and nothing made her happier than spending time with her siblings and others at family gatherings.  

 

She was united in the bonds of holy matrimony to Mose Derico, Sr., their union was blessed with a son Roderick Derico, Sr., and later in life she married James Cox.

 

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Coleman, Sr. and Willie Catherine Tripp; husband, James Cox; son, Roderick Derico; step-daughter, Wilma Christmas; siblings, Richard Coleman, Jesse Coleman, Jr., Clara Mae Coleman, Polly C. Howze, and Bernice E. Coleman.

 

She leaves to cherish her memories, grandchildren, Raven Derico and Roderick Derico, Jr., Gadsden, AL; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Guyton, Johnthan Davis, and Keuntae, Gadsden, AL; step-son, Mose Derico, Jr., McDonough, GA; step-daughters, Patricia Derico, San Jose, California, Shirley Geary, Lorton, Virginia; brothers, Ray Anthony (Annette) Coleman Sr, Willie (Dorothy) Coleman of Gadsden, AL, James Coleman, Middletown, Ohio, Robert Coleman and Randall Coleman, Birmingham, AL; sisters, Gwendolyn Hill and Jessica Coleman, Gadsden, AL, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
