Evangelist Emma Childs Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Evangelist Emma Jean Childs of Gadsden, who traded time for eternity on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at the age of 74.

Emma Jean was born on October 30, 1951, in Gadsden, Alabama, to her parents David Williams, Sr. and Ruby Frances Glass, beginning a life that would become a legacy of faith, love, and unwavering commitment to the Most High’s people.

On December 24, 1970, Emma Jean married the love of her life, Britton Childs III, and together they built a beautiful family rooted in devotion and strength. She was the beloved mother of Patricia, Brittania, and Britton IV.  Her family was her joy, and each of them carries the imprint of her love, wisdom, and strength.

A hard-working and dedicated woman, Emma Jean was employed with Shoney’s Restaurant and later with Tyson Foods. Yet her greatest and most impactful work was done in ministry. She was a well-sought-after Evangelist, a true trailblazer whose voice carried authority, compassion, and conviction. She faithfully served at Deliverance Holiness Church, where she held the position of Assistant Pastor, before transitioning to Lion of Judah Worship Center, a ministry she dearly loved. In her later years, she embraced the fullness of the Truth and served with renewed passion and purpose.

Emma Jean was known for her kind spirit, her love for life, and her unwavering desire to encourage others to become everything The Most High called them to be. She was a woman of prayer, discernment, and boldness—never afraid to speak truth, yet always doing so in love. She deeply loved The Most High, His Word, and her church family at Lion of Judah Worship Center. Her commitment to ministry, her strength of character, and her genuine compassion will remain an enduring part of her legacy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David Williams, Sr. and Ruby Frances; her siblings, Lynda Sue Williams, Eric Williams, Leroy Williams, David Williams, Jr., David “C-Boy” Williams, Delania Cunningham and Angela Crumpler; her brothers-in-love, Ellis Cunningham and Jerry Washington; nephew Yahshay Yahshar’al.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 54 years, Britton Childs III; children, Patricia (James) Parker, Brittania Childs, and Britton Childs IV; grandchildren, Jamee Parker, Jonathan Parker, Xandria Brigham, and Britton Childs V; her sisters, Vera “Vicky” Washington, Carrie (Robert) Stubbs, and Della (Eric) Guerrero; her godbrother, Ocie Hope; nephews, David (Tresea) Williams, Patrick (Antina) Washington, Claude Reeves, and Stephen (Mary) Cunningham; nieces, Alicia Crumpler and Erica Stubbs; her special cousin, Eula Wade; her sisters-in-love, Diane Griffin, Justine Williams, Roberta Harville, Claudia (Robert) Ferguson, Gloria Knight, Gwendolyn Rudolph, and Carolyn Childs; brothers-in-love, Willie Childs, Herbert (Janie) Childs, Sanford Childs, and Arthur Crumpler; she is also lovingly remembered by her additional children, Morgan Tierra Childs, Jessie Melton, Brandon Smith and Anthony (Donna) Looney; special friends, Noressa Thomas, Cheryl Williams, Mary Scissum and Evelyn Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended relatives too numerous to name.
