Gary V. Tiller

It is with deep sympathy that we announce the passing of Deacon Gary V. Tiller of Turkeytown, who traded time for eternity on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the age of 77.  Please keep Deacon Tiller's family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.  

Gary Vernell Tiller was born on March 5, 1946, to the parents of Vernon Theodore Tiller, Jr. and Evelyn Lura Bell Price Tiller. 
Gary graduated from Hatcher High School in 1964, after gradua­tion he enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1965 to 1967. After completing his time in the Army he continued his education in Fabrication and Sheet Metal while working at General Motors for 36 years. 
Gary was united in Holy Matrimony to his high school sweet­heart Dorothy Ann King and two children were born to that union. 
Gary joined Messiah Missionary Baptist Church in Pontiac, Michigan under the leadership of Rev. Sy Thompson, where he served faithfully as a Deacon and Chairman of the Trustee Board. Gary returned to Alabama and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Melvin Guyton. Gary served faith­fully as a Deacon and secretary of the Laymen Department and sang in the Male Choir until he became ill. 
Gary lived a full life where he enjoyed farming and spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. He loved his family and helped anyone that he could. 
Gary departed this life on Saturday, January 27, 2024. 
He was preceded in death by his father, Veron Theodore Tiller; mothers, Evelyn Laura Tiller and Ruth Tiller; brother, Larry W. Tiller; sister, Carolyn Ann Nickson. 
Gary leaves to cherish a lifetime of wonderful memories a loving and devoted wife and family, his wife, Dorothy Ann King Tiller; two sons, Cornelius Andre (Tonya) Tiller and Cary Vernell (Candice) Tiller, Sr.; mother, Costella Smith Tiller; five grand­children, Cary Vernell Tiller, Jr., Tziporah T. Tiller, Hanna Grace Tiller, Corianna A. Tiller, Christian Isaih Tiller; great-grand­daughter, Nyomi Nicole Tiller; god-daughter, Tonya Porter; sis­ters, Gloria J. Tiller, Evelyn June (Derrick) Stockton; sisters-in­-law, Barbara Tiller, Sue (S.Q.) McKinney; brothers-in-law, Arnold Barge, Derick Stockton; special brother/cousin, Rev. Tommy Price; aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Wilson; a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and many dear friends.
