George Rogers Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Mr. George "Slugger" Rogers of Ragland, AL., who traded time for eternity on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the age of 73.  We ask that you keep his family and friends in your prayers during this difficult time.  Services will be Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Ragland, AL., public visitation will be Tuesday, August 2, 2022, from 4-6 pm at our Pell City location.

The sun rose on September 27, 1948. On this day, a son, George, was born to Eddie Lee and Catherine (Roberson ) Rogers in Wellington, Alabama. George was the second eldest of his siblings and was looked upon as the big brother and protector. George grew up as a great athlete which earned him the nickname “Slugger”.  

George united with Christ at Red Mountain Church under the leadership of Rev. Hall.  He later joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Wallace Pinson and continued to serve under friend and pastor, Rev. Anthony Soles. George was a member of the Adult Choir until his health began to fail. 

George united in marriage to Brenda Woods. This union was blessed with a daughter, MaShanta and a son, Anthony. 

The sun set on July 27, 2022, and George departed his earthly life at St. Vincent’s East Hospital in Trussville, Alabama. 

George was proceeded in death by his father, Eddie Lee, grandparents Rev. and Mrs. Ed Rogers and Mr. and Mrs. Ermon Roberson, and brothers, Ronnie, Jason, and Jimmy.

George was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Brenda; daughters, MaShanta  Zimmerman, Jayla (Abraham) Wood, and Crystal Thomas; sons, Anthony Rogers, Christopher (Jamie) Buchanan, George Maddox, Adrian Maddox, Jimmy Rogers, and Fidel Baker; sisters, Lillian Malone, Rachel Smith, Cathy Rogers, and Towana Mostella all of Ragland, Alabama; Brenda Rogers of Gadsden, Alabama, and Virginia Lewis of Providence, Rhode Island; brothers, Willie (Cassandra) Rogers and Eddie Roy Rogers of Ragland, Alabama, Donnie (Leslie) Rogers of Centre, Alabama, and Ermon Rogers of Vincent, Alabama; aunt, Mary Roberson, Wellington, Alabama and uncle, George Roberson, Gadsden, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Donna (Ralph) Jordan of Lanett, Alabama and Latonya (David) Hill of Pell City, Alabama; brother-in-law, Rex (Chris)Daniels of Ragland, Alabama; 20 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; bonus daughter, Linda Hawkins and bonus sons, Ja’Rod, Jamal, and Jameil Brock; and host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
