George Thomas, Jr. was born October 5, 1934, to the late George and Helen Thomas, Sr., in Gadsden, AL.
He confessed Christ at an early age at Union Baptist Church and later dedicated his service to First Baptist Church in Alabama City.
George was a graduate of Carver High School, class of 1954. George earned a degree in electronics from Wenona State.
He retired from Republic Steel and Gulf State Steel where he was employed for 35 years. After retiring from the Steel Plant, he went back to school at Gadsden State and received a certificate in Upholstery. He also worked at Walmart for 12 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Thomas, Sr.; son, Andre Leonardo Thomas; special granddaughter, Anasha Ne’Cole Davis; three sisters, Rosie Woods, Maxine Thomas, Mildred Woody; four brothers, Raymond Whorton, Sr., Richard “Falcon” Whorton, Robert Whorton, Sr., Jimmy “Eggie” Thomas; mother-in-law, Henrietta Maull; brother-in-law, Isaiah Taylor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lucille Thomas; sons, Cedric Lamont Thomas, Anthony Wayne Thomas; daughter, Monica Henrietta Thomas Jones; brother, John (Nikki) Thomas; sisters, Carrie Stewart, Helen Thompson, Marlina Marshall; chosen son, Samuel “Chub” Cox; grandsons, Deroyal Andre Jones, Jr., Jacobi Rapheal Jones, Bernard Leonardo Thomas, Jaylan Kartez Taylor; great-grandsons, Dre Marion Giavonte’ Jones, Jaeceon Javar Thomas, Ja’Kar Lee Kartez Taylor, chosen granddaughters, Dienesha Hickman, Terrmeisha McBride, Jada Lindsey, Jalesa Lindsey; brothers-in-law, Willie James Taylor, John Maull, Jr., and Robert Maull; sister-in-law, Dorothy Harris; a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
