With profound love and sadness, we share that Gesna Hughes Littlefield traded time for eternity at the age of 91, following a brief illness at Riverview Regional Medical Center on Friday, April 3, 2026, with her son and daughter by her side.
She was a beloved daughter to Judge and Alverta Hughes, wife to Daniel, mother to her children, Attorney Braun Littlefield, and Dr. Winifred Littlefield-Williams, grandmother to Dr. Aurielle C. Williams, great-grandmother to Arlyn Jovaleyn Williams, a sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and devout Christian.
Known by all as a compassionate, impactful, and highly accomplished role model, Gesna lived each day guided by faith, purpose, integrity, and service to others.
A lifelong educator and respected leader in the Gadsden City School System for 47 years, Gesna dedicated her career to uplifting her community through education. Her tireless passion for learning and commitment to excellence touched countless lives.
Beyond her professional work, Gesna was a passionate and dedicated community leader who served on countless boards, committees, councils, collegiate associations, and civic organizations across the state and throughout the City of Gadsden. Her vision, leadership, and spirit of service left an enduring mark on the community she so deeply loved.
She was a proud graduate of Alabama A&M University (Bachelor’s) and Jacksonville State University (Master’s and AA Degrees), as well as a proud 71-year life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., whose mission of sisterhood, scholarship, and service she embodied in every aspect of her life.
Gesna’s legacy is one of faith, family, education, and community. Her unwavering devotion, warm heart, and steadfast leadership will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
