It is with deep sympathy we announce the passing of Hazy Hill of Gadsden, AL, who transitioned on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at the age of 81. We ask that you keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during the difficult time.
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.” Psalm 34:17
Hazy Lee Twymon Hill was born May 6, 1941, in Anniston, AL is the beloved daughter of the late Rev. Clifford Twymon and the late Lucy Keith Taylor. In 1946, at the age of 5, she moved to Gadsden, AL, and was reared by her grandmother, the late Lessie Twymon.
She confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with the 16th Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor B. T. Crayton and remained a member until her death.
Hazy was educated in the Gadsden City School System and graduated from Carver High School in the Class of 1958. Because of her love of dancing, her classmate's nicknamed her “Jitter Bug”. She attended Knoxville College, Knoxville, TN, and Gadsden Business College.
She and Thomas Odell Hill were united in holy matrimony on August 24, 1972, and remained married until his death on May 16, 1989. Two children were born unto this union. She was the mother of three children: Degrick Madison Twymon, LaSherry, and Karsha Hill.
Hazy was employed for 20 years by LTV Steel until she became disabled in June 1997. After her surgery, she was given a life expectancy of five years. The Lord blessed her with 25 more years. Her co-workers nicknamed her ‘Prez’ because of her gift of ‘gab’. She could keep a conversation going about anything.
She loved meeting people, was quite a talker, and didn’t mind a ‘friendly debate’. One of her greatest regrets was when she became homebound and couldn’t go and socialize with her friends. Her hobbies were: reading, online shopping, watching Court TV, News Channels, and all types of sports, singing the blues, watching her Sunday Morning Church Services out of Birmingham – Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Michael W. Wesley, and New Hope Baptist Church, Pastor Gregory Clark. Her favorite foods were ‘watermelon’ and ‘chitterlings’. Hazy had a ‘big bark’ but had a soft heart and a sweet spirit; willing to help anyone. Even while she was in the hospital she was questioning the health of others. But, she could show another side when she had a nicotine fit and wanted a cigarette. She had been smoking since she was eight years old and was unable to smoke while in the hospital. One of the last statements she made was ‘just let me have two draws (off of a cigarette)’. She felt like the saying: “There is only one success . . .to be able to spend your life in your own way.’ (Christopher Marley).
On Sunday Morning, December 4, 2022, at Riverview Regional Hospital, the Lord came by and told her “To come with me by yourself to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31.
Hazy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and grandmother; siblings, Edna Harville, Shirley Satcher, Walter Taylor, Joe Louis Taylor, John E. Taylor, and Retia Taylor; dear friends, Jackie Blount Dobbs, Minnie Lou Green Brown, Mary Vernon LaCount, and Annette Johnson Howard; step-mothers, Annie Ree Twymon and Ella Mae Harris.
Those left to cherish her memories are son, Degrick (Monica) Twymon, LaSherry (Shondon) Martin, Karsha Hill; step-children, Christy (Stephen) Huffman, Marcus Whorton, Lionel Whorton; grandchildren, Justin Graves, Ezekiel Martin, Nasya Martin, Elijah Martin; step-granddaughter, Miamore Garrett; great-grandson, Jayden Graves; siblings, Lois Westbrook, Christine (Solomon) Swain, LaJean Duncan, Sherry DeRamus; aunt, Sarah Louise Fluker; step-brother, Donald Harris; dear friends: Jessie & Margie Rawls, Geraldine Bradford Alexander, Faye Russell, Louise Jeffery, Linda Rutledge, Mary Howell, Roberta Harville, Frances Heard Williams, Ophelia Green, and many other friends,
