A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us in mourning the passing of Jacqueline Covington, of Gadsden, AL who traded time for eternity on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the age of 73. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Jacqueline Annette Chambers Covington was born on August 4, 1951, in Ballplay, AL, to the loving union of the late Jack William Chambers and Ruby Cowser Chambers.
From a young age, Jacqueline embraced her faith in Jesus Christ, becoming a dedicated member of New Bethel United Methodist Church in Ballplay. Her service to the church was unwavering and heartfelt. She served as a Communion Stewardess, Choir Member, Delegate to Annual Conference, and was deeply involved in organizing church meals and community fellowship events. Jacqueline was a cornerstone of the church's food ministry, ensuring meals were provided to the elderly and the sick, and she played a pivotal role in the beautification of the church. Known for her spirit-filled worship and encouraging nature, Jacqueline lived her faith through acts of kindness and unwavering care for others, never hesitating to lift her voice in prayer, praise, and song.
Jacqueline was united in marriage to the late James Terry Covington, and from this union, two daughters were born: Laretha Juanice and Felicia Annette.
She attended Hatcher High School in Centre, AL. She devoted her professional life to caring for others, working at Cherokee Village Assisted Living Center in Centre, AL and providing private home care for many years. She shared her talents and passions generously. She loved cooking, sewing, floral arranging, and preserving family history, creating a legacy of love and connection for all who knew her.
Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Rosie, four brothers Herley, Charles, Bobby Joe, and William Chambers, and three great-grandchildren, Storm, Maliyah, and Mirakal Owekha.
Her memory will be cherished and her life celebrated by her daughters, Laretha (Michael) Lampkin of Prattville, AL, and Felicia Covington (Lamar Johnson) of Ballplay, AL; her granddaughters, Electra (Iwarue) Lampkin-Owekha and GeoVonnie Lampkin; her great-grandson, Dominic Owekha, all of Prattville, AL; her siblings, Bernice (Larry) Andrews, Johnnie Cowser of Ballplay, AL, Sadie (Jimmie) Pitts of Montgomery, AL, Malcolm (Donna) Chambers of Ballplay, AL, and Carlton Chambers of Piedmont, AL; as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Jacqueline’s life was a testament to her faith, her love for her family, and her dedication to her community. She leaves behind a legacy of grace, compassion, and service that will forever inspire those blessed to have known her.
