With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of James Henderson of Gadsden, who traded time for eternity on Thursday, July 12, 2025, at the age of 69. We ask that you keep his family and friends in your prayers during this most difficult time.
James Daniel Henderson was born on November 20th, 1955, in Gadsden, Al, to the late James Daniel and Clettie Merele Street Henderson. James’ father passed before his birth and was blessed with a surrogate father, James A. Woody, Jr., who also preceded him in death.
James graduated from Gadsden High School with the class of 1974 and continued his studies at Alabama A & M University.
James accepted Christ at a young age at Sweet Home United Methodist Church where he remained a faithful and dedicated member until his health began to fail. He worked effortlessly in whatever capacity there was a need, from ushering, driving the church van, singing in the male chorus, and cutting the grass.
James was known for collecting many items and scraping some that he found along his daily travels, with some of those items still looking for a home until this day.
James was a pillar of support in his community especially for the youth and elderly. From 1979 to 1990, James served as a firefighter while also working with the youth at Gadsden Head Start Program.
James Daniel Henderson traded time for eternity on Friday, July 12th, 2025, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Those left behind to continue his legacy are his two children, Chaneeka Henderson, Micah (Alicia) Henderson, Sr.; grandchildren, Javain Henderson, Jaley Henderson, Micah Henderson Jr., Avery Kay Henderson, Jalani Palmore, all of Gadsden, AL; great-grandchild Quentin James Henderson, Gadsden, AL; special sister, Angie Fomby, Gadsden, AL; aunt, Mattie Woody, Gadsden, AL, and a host of cousins, friends and Sweet Home Church Family.
