Joseph Johnson, Sr. Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Joseph Johnson, Sr., of Gadsden, who traded time for eternity on Monday,

Joseph Johnson, Sr.,  was born April 18, 1956, to the parentage of the late Eleanor Howard Johnson and Tommy Johnson in Gadsden, AL.

He confessed Christ and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, East Gadsden, AL, under the leadership of Pastor Willie Sayles. Joe was spiritual and liked being involved in church activities, especially singing in the male chorus and the church choir. Joe truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family, playing card games, watching sports, and cheering on the Crimson Tide.

He was educated in the Attalla and Gadsden City School systems and graduated in 1976.

Joseph Johnson, Sr., age 67 passed peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Samuel.

Those left to cherish his memories, Ms. Deborah Sayles-Johnson of Gadsden, AL, his devoted companion of 35 years, Mrs. Waldeana Wise-Johnson to which their marriage gave him his only son, Joseph Johnson, Jr. (Shayna) Huntsville, AL. Joe also leaves to cherish his memories, his two beloved grandsons, Caiden D. Johnson and Myles E. Johnson. Joe will be dearly missed by his sister, Barbara Johnson Glover, Anniston, AL, whom he affectionately referred to as “Sis”; also cherishing his memories are Joe’s treasured godchildren, Zion and Delana Deloach and Zay Sayles; Joe created and maintained a memorable bond with his brothers and sisters-in-love as well as other family members; Joe was also loved by his many nephews, nieces, and cousins.  A debt of gratitude to the late Mr. and Mrs. Pearlie Daniel for their unconditional love and tutelage.  Much love to Mrs. Alberta Hughley and her family for their friendship and support.  Tremendous gratitude to Joe’s longtime friends/brothers, Terry Ash and Steve Huffman.  Joe will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
