A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us in mourning the passing of Ms. Josephine Freeman Stover Robinson, of Gadsden, AL who traded time for eternity on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the age of 97. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Josephine Stover Robinson was born to Charlie and Pearl Freeman on May 2, 1926, in Etowah County, Alabama. To this union, two children were born Andrew Lee and Josephine.
Josephine was educated in the Gadsden City School System and attended Carver High School. After high school Josephine was married and to this union she had six children.
Josephine was employed with Tyson Foods, Jacksonville State University, and The Holy Name of Jesus Hospital, and other jobs to support her family.
“Mama Joe” had a strong personality, and was very opinionated, determined, self-sufficient, and very independent woman.
Josephine joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church at a young age. She was very active in the church, she served in the Sarah Smith Circle, Missionary Society, and Sunday School class. Josephine helped wherever she was needed until her health failed. “Mama Joe” lived a very long independent life and it was not easy for her to ask for help even when she needed it. She was blessed to have special and caring church members and friends who visited her and called her often while bearing food and gifts.
Her grandchildren loved to talk with “Mama Joe” and hear the stories of the past and how things have changed. She always had her wits about her at the age of 97.
“Mama Joe” was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Freeman and Pearl McCain; two sons, Charles and Rickey; two grandsons, Jeffery and Terrance; and one great-grandson, Darrell. She had a great-grandson who joined her in death on April 30, 2024, Jared Sibby.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Diretha, Carolyn, and Paulette; one son, Danny; grandchildren, Howard ( Yolanda), Jackie ( James), Cathy ( Bernard), Gia ( Greg), Tiffany, Desmond, Dancka, Rickesha, Quiana, Rhonda, Derrick ( Jeannie), and Kelly; a host of great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; a special daughter-in-law, Melody Stover; one son-in-law, Walter Allen, and other relatives and friends.
