Julia Cantrell Obituary

It is with heartfelt sympathy, we announce the passing of Mrs. Julia Ann Cantrell, of Gadsden, AL., who transitioned on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the age of 74.  We ask that you please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Julia was born January 23, 1947, to the union of James M. and Lillie Fohy  Landrom.   She was one of two beautiful bouncing twins and the oldest the four siblings.


She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Leesburg, Alabama, where her love for ministry was sparked.   

After graduating from Hatcher High School in 1965 she went on to attend Tuskegee Institute (University).  Julia relocated to Pontiac, MI in 1967 where she resided until her health began to fail.   She returned to Alabama where her two loving siblings, Anita and Wayne took care of her until she took her rest Sunday, January 16, 2022.

Julia united with New Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, Pontiac, MI where she continued her love of working in the church.  She was and active member of the nursing guild and other ministry within the church.

She was known for your beautiful crochet creations that she gifted to many.  In addition to her love of crocheting Julia was an avid reader and had a love of flowers.

She was proceeded in death by her loving mother and father, James and Lillie Fohy Landrom, two nephews, Rodney Horton and Anthony Horton and one niece Renita Landrom.

Julia leaves to cherish her memories: a brother: James Wayne (Bobbie) Landrom, Gadsden, AL; three sisters: Anita Joy Horton, Leesburg, AL and Janet Faye McClure of Mooresville, NC, Emma (James) Ammons, Cleveland, OH; four nieces: Terra (Douglas) Guyton, Gadsden, AL, Chonda McClure, Atlanta, GA, Dedra Ammons, Regina Ammons both of Cleveland, OH; three nephews: Marlin (Brandi) McClure, Mooresville, NC, Jeffrey (Tara) Landrom, Huntsville, AL, Timothy (Tamika) Crawl-bey, Charlotte, NC; one uncle, Walt Billingsley, Birmingham, AL; Friends: Brenda Hurner, Doris Robinson, Barbara Cohen, Lillian Duncan, Deborah Bilbo and Julia Belsey; Special Friend: Donnie Miller all of Pontiac, MI; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, family members and church members.
