It is with a heartfelt heart we announce the passing of Ms. Lessie Thornton, of Gadsden, AL. who traded mortality for immortality on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. We ask that you keep her family, friends, and church family in your prayers during this difficult time.
Ms. Lessie Mae Thornton was born on December 27, 1941, to the late James & Jessie Mae Jones, in Etowah County.
Lessie Mae accepted Christ early at Morning Star Baptist Church in Gadsden, Al. In 1963 Lessie Mae united with Fellowship Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as a Prayer Warrior, a Youth Director, a Sunday School Teacher, and a Nurse Gill.
Lessie Mae, graduated from Carver High School in 1976. After graduation, Lessie Mae worked as a CNA and housekeeper at Coosa Valley Nursing home where she later retired. Lessie Mae served her community and loved her family.
She is preceded in death by her son, Fredrick Jones; brother, Otis Willie Jones; sister, Sallie Mae Jones; granddaughters, Crystal Thornton, Sharon Flakes.

Ms. Lessie Mae is lovingly remembered by four children, Lorra Thornton of Gadsden, Al, Bobby Thornton of Albertville, Al, Jaqueline (Terrance) Gaines of Birmingham, Al, Sandra (Kenneth) Kirby of Gadsden, Al; 13 grandchildren, Alando (Tamara) Thornton of Gadsden, Al, Charles Jacobs of Oklahoma, Demarcus (Shanae) Thornton of Gadsden, Al, Kiona Thornton of Gadsden, Al, Lashunda Thornton of Gadsden, Al, Jeremy (Charlotte) Thornton of Gadsden, Al, Kenya Flakes of Georgia, Bobby Sumpter of Huntsville, Al, Brandon Sumpter of Gadsden, Al, Kendra Kirby of Weaver, Al, Candice Burns of Gadsden, Al, Terrance Gaines Jr. of Birmingham, Al, and surrogate grandchildren; brothers, Marcel Jones of Alexander City, Al, Nathaniel Jones of Florida, Samuel (Marcella) Jones of Gadsden, Al, JP (Deloria) Jones of Gadsden, Al, Reuben Jones and Joseph Jones both of Louisville Kentucky; sister, Annie Jones of Kentucky; 20 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
