Mattie Mae Abercrombie was born on November 6, 1928, to the late Reverend Ullman Abercrombie Sr. and Sarah England Abercrombie. She received her education in the Leeds School System and graduated from Moton High School. Mattie was the oldest living graduate that attended the school. God called Mattie home to eternal rest on September 2, 2025.
At an early age, Mattie gave her life to the Lord. She was a dedicated homemaker who raised three beautiful children. Mattie enjoyed playing cards with friends and watching sports. She was also a very talented softball player in her younger years. Mattie loved gathering with family, especially attending family reunions. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren playing cards/board games, watching tv, and solving jigsaw puzzles. Mattie’s family and friends benefited from her wisdom. Each conversation she engaged in was enriched with knowledge.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents as well as four brothers, Thomas Abercrombie, Woodrow Abercrombie, Calloway Abercrombie and Ullman Abercrombie Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory three lovely children, Tywanda Abercrombie, Danny Abercrombie and Cassandra Walker; son-in-love Harold Walker; eight adored grandchildren, Kristen Walker, Gabrielle Walker, Nicolette Walker, Dustin Abercrombie, Alexandria Poore, Kayla Watts, Jayln Abercrombie and Baylei Abercrombie; two adored great grandchildren Caine Watts and Kwame Watts; three sisters, Lula Abercrombie, Earnestine Burton and Mildrew Carter; several nieces and nephews and a host of treasured family and friends.
We celebrate the life of Mattie Mae Abercrombie. May she be remembered for her beautiful smile, infectious laugh, joyful spirit and heart full of love. Do not mourn her in sorrow, but celebrate her spirit, her legacy, and the special place she holds in each of our hearts.
