A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us in mourning the passing of Ms. Mattie Louise Woody of Gadsden, AL who traded time for eternity on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the age of 77. We ask that you please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
Mattie Louise Woody was born on June 14, 1948, in Gadsden, Alabama, to the loving union of James A. Woody, Jr. and Mattie Lou Stover Woody.
At an early age, Mattie confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She remained a faithful and devoted member until her health began to decline. Mattie found great joy in serving the Lord and her church family. She loved singing in the Mass Choir and was an active member of the Missionary Society and the Matron Circle, where she shared her time, talents, and warm spirit with others.
Mattie was educated in the Gadsden City School System and graduated from Carver High School in 1966. She went on to dedicate over 25 years of faithful service at the Etowah County Courthouse, where she was known for her strong work ethic, professionalism, and commitment.
Mattie was a woman of grace, faith, and quiet strength. Her life reflected a deep love for God, family, church, and community.
A beautiful rose was pulled from the garden of life on January 10, 2026, but her fragrance will forever linger in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, James A. Woody, Jr., and Mattie Lou Stover Woody; brothers, Nathaniel Woody, Kenneth Woody, Earl Woody, Harold Woody, James O. Woody; sister, Katherine Green; sisters-in-law, Wilodean Woody, and Mildred Woody; special friend, Horace Evans; special sister, Janice Huffman.
Those left to cherish her memories are her nieces and nephews, Darrell (Vonda) Woody, Tony Green, Theresa Miller, Pernecia (Xavier) Douthard, Jerome (Tonja) Woody, Harold (Vivian)Woody, Deanna (Curtis) Jones, Nikki Green, Rosalind Woody, Demetris Johnson, Ebonie Ferguson, and Jabreylon Woody; sister-in-law, Ella Woody; brother-in-law, Jimmy Green; special sister and brother, Karen Huffman, and Steve (Christie) Huffman; special cousin, Reginald Woody; uncle, William Lett; special friend/niece, Valerie Mooney, special son, Brian Goodman, and a host of great-nieces and great nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great nephews and dear friends and cousins.
