Obituary

Maxine H. Cowser was born on March 7, 1954, in Etowah County, Alabama, to the late Joe Cephus and Mattie Joe Hale. She graduated from Cherokee County High School, Class of 1973. After graduation, Maxine attended Gadsden State Community College.
She married the love of her life, Howard Dale Cowser, Jr., on June 10, 1973. To this union, four children were born. Maxine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.  She embraced every moment spent with her family and friends. Maxine spent her early years as a stay-at-home mother. She worked a long career in manufacturing, where she was employed with Centre Manufacturing Company, Inc, Bostrom Seating Company, Inc., and later retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
As a faithful member of New Bethel United Methodist Church, Maxine was a Communion Steward, a former Sunday School Superintendent, and served on several other committees. She loved Sunday school and enjoyed reading her bible.
Maxine was an insightful person and loved to share her wisdom with others. Family gatherings were her pride and joy as she loved talking, dining, and laughing. Her favorite past time was being outdoors, gardening, cooking, listening to music, dancing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
After a lifetime of devotion to family and friends, Maxine answered the call from her heavenly father on February 28, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Cephus and Mattie J. Hale, her sister, Linda Andrews, and her brother, David Hale.
Maxine leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of forty-nine years, Howard Dale Cowser, Jr.; four children, Dr. Veronica (Paul) Crawford, Dr. Latonya (Ervin) Gordon, Dr. Howard Dale (Tristicia) Cowser III, and Dr. Selena (Kendrick) Speight; seven grandchildren, Ariana (Christopher) Reed, Ervin Gordon III, Dalen Gordon, Trinity Gordon, Lillie Speight, Alexander Speight, Howard Dale Cowser IV; one great-grandchild, Charlee Reed; two brothers, Ronny (Melissa) Hale and Curtis Hale; one sister, Marilyn Hale; one uncle, Luther Fife, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Yarbrough, and Dr. Dorothy Cowser Yancy; two special friends, Helen Clifton and Gwen Bothwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
