It is with deep sympathy, we announce the passing of Merron Liddell "M.L." Passmore of Gadsden, AL, who transitioned on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the age of 97. We ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Merron Liddell Passmore of Gadsden, AL was born to the late Alonzo and Lucille Passmore on June 5, 1927. He dedicated his life to Christ at the young age of 12 and a faithful member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. Merron was a man of unwavering strength, wisdom, and humility. A devoted father, a decorated war hero, and an inspiration to all who knew him, he lived a life marked by sacrifice, resilience, and an unshakable commitment to those he loved.
Merron was a proud graduate of Carver High School. Following his graduation, he courageously served his country in the Korean War from 1945 to 1951, where he earned a Silver Star and Purple Heart for his bravery. He was widely recognized as a hero, noted for saving his unit and leading them home to their families.
On January 20, 1955, Merron married his beloved wife, the late Katie Passmore, and together they shared three children: Bruce Liddell Passmore, the late Christopher Merron Passmore, and Margaret Eileen Passmore-Haygood. He was a devoted father, instilling in his children a work ethic beyond measure and leading his family with love, wisdom, and strength.
Merron dedicated 35 years of service as an employee of the Republic Steel Plant in Gadsden, Alabama (1958-1993). Outside of his professional achievements, he was known for his humor, ingenuity, and ability to fix anything. He carried an unshakable spirit despite the challenges he faced, including the loss of his wife and son, and continued to lead with faith and perseverance.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his nephews and nieces Rodney Passmore, Rhonda and Steven Hill, Danny and Marilyn Passmore, Nefertiti (Trelain) McClarity, Akilah Hill, Danzel Passmore. He is also survived by his son-in-law, David Haygood. Special friends: Gregory Pierce, Sheena Pierce-Brown, Vonda Pierce-Baker, Ivan Pierce, Kevin Pierce, Larry and Diane Baker, Heather Woods, Trudy Sims, Chester and Paula Sims.
Merron will always be remembered for his wisdom, his humor, his incredible ribs and baked beans, and his unwavering love for his family and faith. A man who lived with integrity, loved without limits, and left an indelible mark on those he touched.
